upsilambazza Hey Yippies:

In remembering our awesome times reunionizing at the Peace March in DC last September, I propose we repeat that pattern and attend another... Apply our countercultureCTY wisdom to this crazy crazy world...

Anyway, on September 17, there is going to be a March, Rally, and Concert for Darfur in front of the UN (sqee!), supporting efforts to:

1. get a UN Security Council vote in favor of sending a Peackeeping commission to the area
2. gain added support for African Union troops in the area until such time as the "blue helmets" can enter the region
3. sustain a safe passage for humanitarian aid workers through genocide-inflicted areas

It seems to me that the spirit of the 60s lives on in our modern efforts to see beyond country-based divisiveness and put our attentions into assisting our brothers in other regions of the world. I can totally go for taht, man. Plus, we might get to wear Mario Savio-style helmets. Except blue.

tell me what you think!

Love, Shannon, aka, you resident Militant Lesbian

upsilambazza OHHHH
MYYYYYYY
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!

(that's a "god" right there, but it looks like "good", which, if I wasn't an agnostic, I would probably find inspiring)

I just went out to dinner with my friend Elaine from Martha's Hall 2004, who lives In BERKELEY, CA, and whose parents teach at Berkeley and WENT TO BERKELEY IN THE 60's--- Her mom was there and an old college friend of her mom's, and it came out in conversation that:

Elaine's mom was friends with JERRY RUBIN (in fact, she dated his best friend)

The other lady, Barbara, who I absolutely LOVED, was close friends with MARIO SAVIO (at this point I actually covered my face and started hyperventalating, I kid you not)

Elaine's mom also was dating a Black Panther, and when she was doing sociological research on the slums in Oakland, the Black Panthers gave her two of their numbher as bodyguards... one of whom later changed his name to AMIRI BARAKA, one of modern day's foremost political poets... OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I almost had a seizure. A SEIZURE, I TELL YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GAK!
AUUGGGGHH!!!!

no words...to describe...

Okay, so y'all. If I know what the hell I'm talking about, we're having a min-reunion next weekend in the NYC. So, if you can, get your asses there so we can all have sex!

Er. I miss you all with insanity.

upsilambazza Aight, so last night, I was supposed to go to a friend's Halloween party as a Jackson Pollock painting, but my paint splatters weren't dried in time, so in about half an hour, I had to come up with a really scatalogical costume, and the first thing that popped into my head was...........

THE PSYCHEDELIC ACID KOOL-AID TEST!!!!!!!!

Yes, so basically I went to the party as a physical manifestation of an acid trip. It rocked ass. except that even though I looked through my 60s notes for like 15 minutes because I knew I had it in there, I couldn't find the chemical compound of LSD (oh GOD, that sounded so fabulously nerdy---LOVE. IT.)... Do any of you have it? I wanted to write it on my back but couldn't. 'Twas very upsetting.

that's my story.

upsilambazza DUUUUDE, I say we ALL get red hard hats and start a yippie cult of the 21st century!!! Release greased pigs into the aisles of Wal-Mart, and the cubicles of IBM! Fuck the man! Fuck Him Hard!!!

Or not.

Seriously though, I think it would be really sexy (without the sex-part) if we all got red hard hats to band us together as sojurners of hippieness... Or something like that. How much do they cost, Rivkah?

Okay, I figured since some people (read: me) read their flists more than their emails, I'm checking up about protest plans, because we need to get it together.

Amanda, are you meeting us in DC for the rally? Angela, are you coming from Jersey?

TELL ME NOW.

I love you. :)

4:24 pm - Film!
yippie_for_me I just went to Hardy Barracks (an army barracks, suprisingly enough)and gave in my 5 rolls of film to be developed. I can pick it up the day after tomorrow, my time, and I will scan the CTY ones and e-mail them to everybody. I am also sending an e-mail of much the same wording as this, so prepare to be informed twice!
Love to all,
~K

5:14 pm - Hey Guys!!!!!
yippie_for_me Yay! I finally managed to find the community!
I'm glad that I did - this is cool.
I was suprised to see how few of the class actually did join.
Anyway, this is just a quickie message to let you know I'm in.
I hate timezones. I write a message or e-mail someone, and I have to wait 'till the next day to get an answer. I always feel so behind in all conversations.
Lovelovelove, Peace and Power.
~K

So I was listening to "Give Peace a Chance" today...

Haha how random does that sound? But seriously, I was. And I never noticed the part where he goes "let's hear it from the hippies and the yippies" until now, and it made me way too happy. And it reminded me of that night we read the Abbie Hoffman stuff and Shae and I ran around like "peace and love" all meet market.

Okay so with this protest/rally/reunion thing, what EXACTLY is happening? I now know that it's September 24, in Washington DC. And it's about what, the fact that Bush/war both suck? I'm getting lost with the e-mail thing so Shae or Angela, can you please help me out here? My mom also wants to know if the DNC is involved because she's all "don't get arrested ahhh!!!" and she likes the DNC. Yeah... help! I really want to go!

Are we making this journal public or what? Just wondering.

Peace and love
